Play Area Updates...

The play area scheme that was led by the Bourne Valley Action Group opened last autumn (2011). It has proved extremely popular and attracts many youngsters and their parents. As is often the case there have been some associated parking problems, as visitors from further away park close to the site in an unsuitable location. This park is in easy walking distance of a lot of residents and should be accessed by means other than car.

The Scott Road play area improvement was originally funded by Playbuilder but was dropped when the funding was reduced. Fortunately there was a “Plan B” and it was improved using savings from other schemes and a small amount of ward based funding, and now provides a couple of extra features that have proved very popular.

The Alderney West/Belben Road re-siting scheme was also a victim of cuts in Playbuilder funding. In this case Poole Housing Partnership, Ward based developer contributions & a successful bid for outside funding rescued the project. Unfortunately, due to planned works by Wessex Water, this scheme will not be implemented until early 2013. On the plus side, it might be possible to get some extra funding in to do an even better scheme than was originally planned.

The Hatchards Field improvement (off Rossmore Road) was Poole’s top priority amongst the deferred Playbuilder projects. It includes specialised equipment to enable children with disabilities to play alongside the more able bodied. The first phase, now completed, includes some sensory planting. It will be officially opened once an adjacent area is completed that will provide a compact five a side football compound.

Wallisdown Parking Zone Extension...

The extension to the Raleigh Road, Benbow Crescent & Wallisdown Road Service Road Resident’s Parking Zone was consulted on and the Raleigh Road, Benbow Crescent & Wallisdown Road element was approved along with most of the junctions identified by the waste collection service as causing access problems. These were implemented in February 2012. With regards to the Frobisher Avenue, Keys Close, Hawkins Road & Scott Road element, the decision to implement these was deferred for a six month period to see if they were needed once the first part was implemented. There will be a further consultation (around June/July/August) before a final decision is made.

The resident’s parking zone is a 2 hour restriction Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm except for Resident Permit holders. These currently cost £46 but are due to be increased to around £51 in 2013. The original proposal, which we defeated, was to DOUBLE the charge to £84 per year by 2013/14.
