The Poole Music Festival last ran in 2001. The Myspace
site has more up to date information and links. The main Poole Music site contains lots
of background information about the festivals history – including many of the
bands that played during its five-year history. Some additional pages from the
past will be posted as and when recovered via the link Old PMF. The old (2006)
Links and More Links pages have been
recovered. Meanwhile
here are some headlines and recent news…
Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip to play Rossmore Library
Bizzare
as it sounds, the excellent Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip myspace is to perform at Rossmore
Library on December 11th as part of National Literacy
Week. Noted for the literary quality of their raps, the event will include
unaccompanied material as well as the normally backed stuff. Support is from
George Pringle (check out her myspace site for some examples of her music),
who if he’s half as good as DLSVSP’s last support
(Gideon Conn myspace at Mr Kyps)
will be a worthy addition to a not to be missed performance. Tickets are £6 (or
just £5 for library members), from Rossmore Library
or Poole Central Library. Having exported lyrical genius Eddie Argos to

STEVE
HARRIS…
Steve Harris passed away early 2008 following an
illness. Steve was a key mover in the Soundstorm
organisation, which provided support an advice for young musicians. Steve was
also a renowned improvisational jazz musician, fronting his own band Zaum.
Those of us who met Steve, and those who were helped and inspired by him,
will miss him. Click on the links to find out more. A “ |
BBC 6 Music Provide New Opportunities For New Bands… Digital radio station BBC 6 Music (on Freeview 707, DAB & online at www.bbc.co.uk/6music) recently
added another program that is particularly useful to bands trying to gain
recognition. Tom Robinson, himself a musician, introduces his own “BBC
Introducing…” show from Let’s
hear it for A Human... Never one to resist plugging something I like so here is
my vote for the most under appreciated new band of 2008. A Human supported
Art Brut at their ULU gig in February (so only local by association!). They
were so good I checked them out in their own right in June. Check the band’s myspace
link and follow the page down to a video of their unplugged appearance on Tom
Robinson’s Evening show on BBC 6 Music. Apologies for the
incorrect link on previous versions of this page. |

More Favourite Local Hopefuls…A band that has grabbed the attention of the
webmaster recently is Sancho. The band have a sound that combines trippy
sensibility with 80s electro and a hint of Hot Chip. Worth catching. Their
next gig is on the 8th March – see their Myspace
site for details. Lostaura –
originated from Poole but now Brighton based, they are getting some plum gigs
in and around the South East. This has recently been circulated (click here for previous item on the
band).

Art
Brut Footage On Facebook…
Originating from Poole, Eddie Argos and the band he
formed in 2003, Art Brut, have been touring the UK recently. They did two
nights at the ULU in London, supported by the entertaining A human (retro has
never sounded so good – see Facebook comments). On
the webmasters “Facebook”
site, and on a couple of the groups including “Friends of Bourne Valley Youth
Club” (go to Alderney BH12
for link),
there is footage of them playing the first of these nights. Web Site www.artbrut.org.uk |
